Waterfalls of Iceland

The numerous waterfalls of Iceland are part of the wonders of nature in this region.

The best known waterfalls of Iceland are Dettifoss, Selfoss, Gođafoss and Aldeyjarfoss in the north of the island. In the south, Háifoss, Gjáin with its big number of small waterfalls, Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss and Gullfoss are belonging to the places to see. In the west of Iceland, there are to be found the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss in a lovely setting of birchwoods.

The highest waterfall is Glymur [198 m] in the Hvalfjörđur area.

Svartifoss in Skaftafell National Park is surrounded by columns of basalt.

In the Westfjords the river Dynjandi is flowing like a fan over Fjallfoss.
