Victor Davis Hanson
Victor Davis Hanson is a classicist and grape farmer known both as a scholar of ancient warfare, a commentator on modern warfare, and a critic of social trends related to farming and
agrarianism. He received his B.A. from the
University of California, Santa Cruz (
1975) and his
Ph.D from
Stanford University (
1980), and is currently professor at
California State University, Fresno, where he began teaching in
1984 when he started the classics program there.
He is a member of the Democratic party but holds conservative views on many issues. He is a contributor to National Review and a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution. He cites the Theban general and statesman Epaminondas as one of his heroes. Hanson is quoted often on the weblog Little Green Footballs.
