The Wrekin

The Wrekin is a part of east Shropshire in the United Kingdom. It is near Telford, and forms part of the Telford and Wrekin district, which used to be called simply 'The Wrekin'.

The Wrekin acquired its name from the elevation capped by a hill fort almost 8 hectares (80,000 m²) in size, located within its boundaries. This hill fort is one of the few whose original name (Uriconion) has been preserved, and later came to identify nearby Wroxeter.
