Tengri

Tengri (turkish: Tanri) is the Supreme God of the Turco-Mongol shamanist tradition.

Peoples from the Yakuts to Chuvash, the Turks and Mongols not to mention, have retained this name designated to the Sky God, and to the God of Islam or other monotheistic religions.

Veriations of the name include: Tengri (Uyghur, Mongolian), Tanri (Turkish), Tangri (Kazan Tatar, Azeri, Turkmen), Tangara (Yakut or Sakha)

The Chinese word for "heaven", "Tian" is allegedly a cognate of Tengri, as an attestation of Turkic origin of certain early Chinese dynasties
