Steel (comics)

Steel is a name used by several fictional characters owned and published by DC Comics in their universe. There have been three characters, all superheroes, to use the name.

Steel I (Henry "Hank" Heywood), better known as Commander Steel, is a Golden Age superhero. He first appeared in Steel volume 1 #1. He apparently died battling the supervillain Eclipso.

Steel II (Henry "Hank" Heywood III) is the grandson of Commander Steel. He was a member of the "Justice League Detroit team, and was killed in action against one of the team's classic foes, Professor Ivo.

Steel III, or The Man of Steel, is engineer John Henry Irons, who built and adopted a suit of super-powered armor to take up heroics after Superman's apparent death. He had a short-lived solo series, and also has been a supporting character in Superman comics. He has also been a member of the Justice League. There was a motion picture based on this version of the character called Steel (1997) starring Shaquille O'Neal as the title character. The character also made an appearance on where he was played by Michael Dorn.
