Starship Yorktown
The USS Yorktown (NCC-1704) is a Constitution class starship in the Star Trek fictional universe. This vessel was seen briefly during when it was disabled by the Probe on its voyage to Earth.
Fans of Star Trek have long contended that this ship was renamed at the end of and became the second Starship Enterprise (NCC-1701-A). Other sources say that it was the second starship Yorktown that had been renamed as the Enterprise-A.
Gene Roddenberry originally intended the Enterprise in to be named Yorktown but the name was changed prior to filming of the first pilot episode "The Cage".
It is assumed that this ship is named after the famous Battle of Yorktown that took place in the American Revolutionary War. The starship may also be named after the numerous naval vessels named Yorktown, particularly the aircraft carrier that was sunk during the Battle of Midway in 1942.
