Skatole

Skatole is a white crystalline organic compound, C9H9N, which has a strong fecal odor. It is found naturally in feces, beets, and coal tar, and is also used as a fixative in the manufacture of perfume.

The word derives from the ancient Greek word skat, which means dung.
