Gay Center

The area around Nollendorfplatz was a main center of Gay-life during the 1920s & 1930s (Weimar Republic). The Eldorado Night Club on Motzstr was closed down by the Nazis on coming to power in 1933. Christopher Isherwood lived just around the corner on Nollendorfstr. This apartment was the basis for his book "Goodbye to Berlin" and later the film Cabaret and is commemorated by a plaque on the building.
