Phoenix (Star Trek)
In the science fiction series, Star Trek, the Phoenix was the first man-made spacecraft to travel beyond the speed of light. It was the first successful use of warp drive.The fictional characters Zefram Cochrane and Lily Sloane constructed the Phoenix (which was technically a prototype) from old nuclear missile parts.
The voyage of the Phoenix occurred in 2063, and its mission initiated the first communication between Earth and extraterrestrials when a Vulcan exploratory vessel detected the ship's warp signature. The Phoenix was seen in the motion picture .
Seen in , the USS Phoenix was a Nebula class starship seen in the episode The Wounded, and was apparently named for the original Phoenix.
