General Information

The Painkiller Magazine is China's first heavy music magazine and a legally registered enterprise for print media productions by Chinese State Authority.

Based in Beijing it was founded September 2000 and published a new issue every four months, the release quantity was raised to one issue every two months.

Their average quantity is 20000 - 40000 copies to be sold in whole mainland China (Beijing, Chengdu, Xi'an...), as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The magazine's language is Chinese, but they have English and German speaking employees for interviews and article research.

The content focuses on articles and interviews with foreign metal bands from the genres: Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Progessive, New metal, Trash Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, Grindcore and Brutal Death. In addition to this offers every issue a 'metal in China' section and a CD introducing new bands.

Further activities include the support of the local metal underground, the organization of concerts, CD distribution in whole China and certain internet activities. They have an official webpage as well as a special section to promote and introduce the local Chinese heavy metal scene, in which several city scenes are presented, bands are introduced and Chinese heavy metal is explained as a part of Chinese new history, including its function as a 'rebellion of denial' due to the new sound movement.

Their present issue (#11) features Labyrinths concert in Beijing that took place on May 15th 2004.
