Ovum

An ovum (or loosely, egg or egg cell) is a female gamete. In higher animals, ova are produced by organs called ovaries. It is called an ovule in seed plants.

Ovule could also mean a young ovum of an animal.

The word is derived from the Latin word (ovum, plur. ova) for egg.

The ovum is the largest cell in the human body, typically visible to the naked eye without the aid of a microscope or other magnification device.
