The New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) was a musical movement of the late 70s and early 80s which captured the imagination of music afficianados all around the world, and laid the path for heavy metal to rule the 80s decade. The movement was led by Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Saxon and Diamond Head. Of these Iron Maiden and Def Leppard went on to become big stars while the others influenced both glam metal and extreme metal. However the movemnt burned out in the mid 80s.
The New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) occurred in the late 1970s after the fall of the original British heavy metal bands like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. The progressive sounds of metal were sped up and turned into blistering power chords.
The guitars were often played with quick power chords and fast guitar solos. Power metal bands always have a good vocalist with a high vocal range. Most power metal bands have two lead guitar players. Helstar was one of the first power metal bands. There is a fine line between traditional metal and power metal. The bands often cross this line.
