Mutilation

Mutilation is a non-consensual act or injury that changes the appearance of the (human) body. The term is usually used to describe the victims of accidents, torture or physical assault. Acts of mutilation may inculde amputation, burning, flagellation, castration, or wheeling.

The act of voluntarily changing the appearance of the body on a permanent, or semi permanent basis is refereed to as: Self-harm, Apotemnophilia or Body modification depending on context.
