Latias is a unique dragon/psychic-type Pokémon that can fly. Her brother is Latios. They both appeared in the movie Pokémon Heroes. Both of them can be found in the Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire games in Southern Island.

Latias' name might have been derived from the Latin word" 'latere' (as in latent), which means 'to lie hidden', 'to be invisible'. The first person singular form of this word is lateo, which sounds exactly like this Blue Dragon's name, thus making it translateble as 'I lay hidden'.

According to the Pokémon Ruby Pokédex, "LATIAS is highly sensitive to the emotions of people. If it senses any hostility, this POKéMON ruffles the feathers all over its body and cries shrilly to intimidate the foe."

According to the Pokémon Sapphire Pokédex, "LATIAS is highly intelligent and capable of understanding human speech. It is covered with a glass-like down. The POKéMON enfolds its body with its down and refracts light to alter its appearance."

Latias is the only female legendary, and can be found randomly in Pokemon Sapphire. Whenever you exit an area, she does too. In Pokemon Ruby, she is found on Southern island holding the Soul Dew. In Fire Red and Leaf Green, you need to trade her from R/S.

Latias is one of the only Pokemon that is affected by the Soul Dew item. When Latias holds the Soul Dew, its Special Attack and Special Defense stats are multiplied by 1.5 while it is in battle. Latias holding the Soul Dew is widely considered to be an 00ber Pokémon.
