Name origin

Celebi originated from the Japanese name, Serebii, which, in turn, might have originated from the word "celery".

Information

Celebi wanders across time. Grass and trees flourish in the forests in which it has appeared. When it disappears deep in a forest, it is said to leave behind an egg it brought from the future. This Pokémon came from the future by crossing over time. It is thought that so long as Celebi appears, a bright and shining future awaits us.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Celebi is one of the Pokémon that comes out of a Pokéball. It just flies away once released. Whoever sees it gets a bonus of 10,000 points.

Strengths / weaknesses

Celebi is vulnerable to Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Ghost, and Dark types, and strong against Water, Electric, Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Psychic types.

Availability

Celebi is not available in any English version of the Pokémon game, and is not obtainable at all in Pokémon Red and Blue. Like Mew, you would have obtain it by a Nintendo giveaway event or by using Gameshark.

Obtaining Celebi in the game

In the Japanese version of Pokémon Crystal, Celebi can be caught by obtaining the GS ball (the same one that Ash had to carry around while in the Orange Islands). However, this requires a cable to connect the Gameboy Color with a cell phone.
After letting the Pokéball Expert, Kurt, take a look at it, he'll ask you to take it to the Ilex Forest shrine where the forest's protector, Celebi, is honored. Upon placing the GS ball there, Celebi will appear and go to you. Only then will you be able to try to capture it.

To do this in the English version, it is necessary to use a cheat code to obtain the GS ball since it is not possible to get the cable that connects the Gameboy Color to the cell phone outside of Japan, nor did the game keep its full compatibility with it once translated.

Movie appearance

Celebi is one of the main characters in the movie Pokémon 4 Ever.

Warning: Plot details follow.

In this movie, Celebi is running away from a hunter. He crashes into young Samuel Oak who protects him, and in return, Celebi transports them 40 years into the future (brining them to the present) to save them from a Team Rocket member who turns Celebi into a Shadow Pokémon. see Pokémon Colosseum
