Arai Hakuseki

Arai Hakuseki (新井白石 1657-1725) is a Confucianist and politican in Japan during the middle of Edo Period, who advised the Shogun, Ienobu.

His works include:

Oritaku Shiba-no-ki (a diary)
Tokushi Yoron (a historical work)
Seiyo Kibun (a work describing the West, based on Hakuseki's interview of a Jesuit priest)
Hankanfu
