And the Band Played On
And the Band Played On is a book written by Randy Shilts chronicling the spread of HIV in the USA and the early impact of AIDS on the gay community. It was mainly discussed for introducing Gaëtan Dugas;, an Air Canada flight attendant, as the so-called Patient Zero, who introduced the virus to America.
The notion has since been disregarded, but was also featured in the 1993 HBO movie that was made from the book.
