Alexandr Kaleri

Alexandr Jurijevič "Sasha" Kaleri (born 13 May 1956) is a Russian cosmonaut and veteran of extended stays on the Mir Space Station and the International Space Station.

Born in Jurmala, Latvia, Kaleri holds a degree from the Moscow Institute of Mechanical Physics. In 1979, he was hired by the Energia Corporation and worked on the design of the Mir space station. He was selected as a cosmonaut candidate in 1984 and flew three extended missions aboard Mir in 1992, 19961997, and 2000. He is currently a member of International Space Station expedition 8, and is in orbit aboard the ISS with astronaut Michael Foale.
