March 17, 1997 Linda Finch starts on her recreation of the 1937 Amelia Earhart flight to circumnavigate the globe solo. Her recreation was successful, ending May 28, 1997 when she touched down again in Oakland, California.
May 28, 1997 Linda Finch, pilot, aviation historian, and San Antonio, Texas businesswoman, touched down in Oakland, California completing a 73 day circumnavigation of the globe in a restored and specially equipped 62-year-old Lockheed Electra 10E. Ms. Finch's flight followed the same route attempted by Amelia Earhart 60 years earlier and used the same model of plane.
